Operationally, Firewall No Root relies on Android’s VpnService API to implement local traffic filtering. It constructs a local connection within the device that routes traffic through the app for analysis before allowing or blocking it. Importantly, no traffic is tunneled to external VPN servers nor forwarded to third parties.

Because of its use of VpnService, Android may display a “VPN” indicator during operation, which is an expected behavior for local filtering implementations.

Regarding privacy and data security, the app is developed in Germany with a commitment to transparency. According to Google Play’s “Data safety” disclosures, it does not collect user data for analytics or advertising purposes, nor share data with third parties. Connections used for updates are encrypted. The app refrains from creating activity logs aimed at profiling browsing behavior.

Designed with simplicity in mind, the product avoids ads, intrusive marketing, or alarming notifications. Users have full authority over which applications are permitted online access.

The core functionalities are available free of charge without advertisements. Optional in-app purchases provide additional features and support ongoing development, without subscription commitments.

It is important to note that only one VPN or firewall app can utilize Android’s VpnService at any time. Activating another may necessitate selection between applications. While Firewall No Root enhances privacy by reducing unnecessary background connections and attack vectors, it should be viewed as a supplementary tool rather than a comprehensive security solution. It does not replace system updates or guard against all threats.
